The Oriental belongs to a group of shorthaired cats of an oriental type. It has a slender, elegant body, with long tapering lines, lithe and well muscled. The head is of medium size, in good proportion to the body, well balanced, wedge shaped with straight lines. The skull, viewed in profile, is slightly convex. The nose is long, straight and continuing the line from the forehead without any break. The muzzle is narrow, the chin is of medium size. The end of the chin is in a vertical line with the tip of the nose. The ears are large, pointed and very wide at the base. Eyes are of medium size, neither protruding nor recessed. They are almond shaped, vivid, luminous green. The neck is long and slender. The long, svelte, well muscled body must appear dainty and elegant. The legs are long, ending with small, oval paws. he tail is long, thin and it tapers to a fine point. The coat is short, fine, glossy and silky, lying close to the body, because the undercoat is almost absent. Faults include yellow eyes or a stubby body. The Oriental Shorthaired cat is type-specifically and characteristically comparable to the Siamese cat. The differences between the two breeds are the coat colour and the eye colour. The typical Siamese coloured points are not present on Oriental Shorthaired cats. In addition, Oriental Shorthaired cats have deep emerald green eyes instead of blue.
