The Javanese cat belongs to the Oriental cats group, together with Siamese, Oriental and Balinese cats. It is a semi-longhaired type of Oriental cat, and is also known as an Oriental Longhaired cat. It has a slender, elegant body, with long tapering lines, lithe and well muscled. The shoulders are not wider than the hips. The head is of medium size, in good proportion to the body, well balanced, wedge shaped with straight lines. The wedge starts at the nose and gradually increases in width to the ears. It is set on a long, slender neck. The skull, viewed in profile, is slightly convex. The nose is long and straight. The muzzle is narrow, the chin is of medium size and lies in a vertical line with the tip of the nose. The ears are large, pointed and very wide at the base. Eyes are medium sized, almond shaped, and a vivid, luminous green. The legs are long and fine, ending with small, oval paws. The tail is very long, thin at the base and it tapers to a fine point. The coat is fine and silky. On the body, it is medium long, and slightly longer at the frill, shoulders and on the tail. It has no undercoat. Javanese cats in many aspects resemble Balinese cats, but the differences are the colour of coat and the colour of eyes. Javanese cats have, in common with Oriental shorthaired cats, neither points nor blue eyes. FIFe recognizes more than 150 colour varieties of basic and diluted colours, of which some exist only theoretically.
