The tailless cat Manx is classified into the group of shorthaired cats. It is a medium sized cat with a short back and deep flanks. The head is fairly large and round, with chubby, prominent cheeks. The nose is of medium length, without a definite stop, but not snub. Ears are medium-sized, open at the base and tapering slightly to the tip. They are set fairly high on the head. Eyes are large and round, their colour should correspond to the colour of a given variety as in case of British cat, but it is not essential. The body is solid and compact, with a broad chest and deep flanks. Legs are well muscled. The front legs are short and set well apart, so the broad chest is visible. The hind legs are higher than the front. Paws are round. The coat is short, with a double structure. The undercoat is soft and dense and gives a plush impression. All colour varieties and patterns are recognized, including combinations with white. Any amount of white is permitted. The colour of the nose leather and paw pads harmonise with the coat colour. FIFe recognizes four types according to the length of the tail stump: MAN 51 - Rumpy - absolute absence of tail with a definite hollow at the end of the spine; MAN 52 - Rumpy riser - there is a rise of spine (sacral bone), which should not spoil the tailless impression; MAN 53 - Stumpy - short and stubby tail, often with an irregular shape, but it is not bent or kinked, it should be no longer than three centimeters; and MAN 54 ? Longie - a regular or near regular tail (these cats are used for breeding but may not be shown)
