The British cat belongs to the group of shorthaired cats. It is a medium to large cat. The head is round and massive, with a broad skull. The nose is short, broad and straight, with a slight indention, but not with a stop as in Exotic or Persian cats. The chin is strong. The ears are small and slightly rounded at the tips; they are set wide apart. Eyes are large, round, wide open and set wide apart. They have a luminous, shiny copper or deep orange colour. The head is set on a short, very strong and well-developed neck. The body is muscular, cobby, with a broad chest. Shoulders and back are strong and solid. The legs are short and strong with round and firm paws. The tail is short and thick, slightly rounded at the tip. The coat is dense and short, not lying flat, with a fine texture. It has a well-developed undercoat.
